Jubilee of Life Walk

Cancer and cancer care continues to be a major health issue. Cancer can affect a person and their loved ones on many different levels – emotionally, physically, financially, psychologically, socially, functionally, spiritually….and their well-being. A cancer diagnosis can turn a family’s world upside down, making it difficult at times to make sense of things in life that used to be perfectly understandable.  CARE’s La Gran Fiesta Jubilee of Life Walk is a local fundraiser that its purpose is to raise funds to help local children and adults recently diagnosed with any type of cancer, who are in active treatment for their cancer.  CARE will help with non medical needs, basic living needs so that a patient’s cancer journey is just a little easier….so they are not alone in their cancer journey….so that they may concentrate on treatment, healing, recovery and survival.  CARE’s financial assistance improves quality of life and health outcomes and reduces financial burdens to our local families.

Jubilee of Life Walk is part of CARE’s La Gran Fiesta signature cancer fundraiser.  It will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Young Park.     Set Up Time:  3:00 to 5:00 p.m.  Event Time:  5:00 to 10:30 p.m.  Tear Down Time:  10:30 to 11:00 p.m.

PARTICIPANT CHOICES:

  1. Jubilee of Life Walk – Team w/ $10 Registration fee per person and fundraise
  2. Jubilee of Life Walk – Individual w/ $10 Registration fee per person and/or fundraise
  3. Jubilee of Life Walk – No Registration fee – $0 for Cancer Survivors

JUBILEE OF LIFE WALK is an event of La Gran Fiesta.   

CARE’s Jubilee of Life Walk is a fundraising walk on a designated course where participants walk at their own pace either as a team or individually. Teams are very much encouraged.  Teams and participants are encouraged to fundraise.  Our team goal is to have at least 10 people in a team and have each team participant raise at least $100 each; total team fundraising to be at least $1,000.  Also, participants will pay a registration fee of $10 per person. Survivors are honored guests and exempt from the registration fee.   Participants are also encouraged to hold one fundraiser prior to the event and/or during the event.  Please note:  Each individual who raises $100 or more will receive a free event T-shirt; deadline for submission of funds for free t-shirt is September 5.

REGISTRATION / CHECK-IN

Registration tables will be in front of the park on the east side.  Registration begins along with the set-up time of 3:00 p.m.   Participants who did not preregister can register at these tables.   Each participant will complete a Registration Form and pay the $10 registration fee to the designated volunteer.  

THE COURSE

The course will be indicated at Young Park. 

AGE CATEGORIES

All teams and individual participants of all ages may walk the course at their own pace.    Parents will accompany their small children so they are sure to stay on-course or in case they are not able to make the full distance.

REFRESHMENTS

There will be a designated refreshment table so that CARE families can hydrate throughout the walk.

TEAM ON-SITE FUNDRAISERS

All participants are encouraged to participate in other teams on site fundraisers—eat, drink, play games, buy goodies, bid on silent auction items, buy chance drawings, etc.

HAVE FUN AND BE MERRY

Our Jubilee of Life Walk is meant to be a joyful and merry event.  HAVE FUN!!!

DONATION COLLECTION

Team Captains and Individuals need to submit their fundraised funds on a weekly basis at Team Captain meetings. Team Captain meetings are every Monday at CARE office, 118 S. Water Street from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m.  Team Captains and Individuals please follow these steps:

  1.  If checks are collected, please have them written payable to:   CAASNM for CARE.
  2. Please return your monetary donations to:

  1. Please submit donations by:   September 12, 2018

PLEDGES

Participants should find it easy to collect pledges.  Every little bit helps you reach your fundraising goal.

Some ways for participants to raise money include:  

Ask five relatives for $20 each:  $100
Ask five friends for $10 each:  $50
Ask five neighbors or coworkers for $10 each:  $50
Ask two local merchants for $25 each:  $50
You just raised  $250!!!

  • A canopy and decorations for your canopy

  • Things needed for your on-site fundraiser
  • If you are selling food as your fundraiser, please acquire Temporary Food Permit  – NMED
  • Your Walk-a-thon form if participating in this selected fundraiser
  • Money to participate in other CARE families on-site fundraising
  • Food and snacks (can purchase from other teams too!)
  • Water and other drinks (alcohol is not allowed – can purchase from other teams too!)
  • Paper plates, napkins, utensils, cups, etc.
